Ana Tostões PhD is architect, architecture historian, chair of Docomomo International and DOCOMOMO Journal Editor. She is Full Professor at Tecnico, U Lisboa (UL), where she is in charge of the architectural PhD program. She has been invited professor at EPFL (Lausanne), ETH Zurich, University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture (USA), Rice School of Architecture (Houston), ETSAB (Barcelona) and FAU Navarra (Pamplona). She has a degree in Architecture (ESBAL, 1982), a master’s degree in History of Contemporary Art (UNL, 1994), she holds a PhD (IST-UL, 2003) on culture and technology in Modern Architecture:. Her book “Idade Maior” (FAUP, 2015) was distinguished with the X BIAU Award 2015. Her research field is the theory and history of architecture and construction of the twentieth century. On these topics she has published 13 books and 100 scientific articles, curated 10 exhibitions and taken part in 47 juries, 40 scientific committees and given 72 lectures in European, American, Asian and African universities. She was the coordinator of the research project (PTDC/AUR-AQI/103229/2008) “Exchanging World Visions” focused on the Modern Sub-Sahara African architecture distinguished with the Gulbenkian Award 2014. Tostões has been vice-president of the Portuguese Order of Architects and of the Portuguese section of the International Association of Art Critics. In 2006, she was awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique.
